Berlinale 2025: UK films and co-productions

The Berlin International Film Festival returns on 13 – 23 February 2025 with 12 UK films and co-productions featuring across the programme. 

Screening in competition for its world premiere will be Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s adaptation of the Deborah Levy novel, Hot Milk, a Spanish set drama about a mother and daughter starring Vicky Krieps and Emma Mackey.  

The Panorama strand will feature the world premiere of Dreamers, from writer-director Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor about a Nigerian woman trapped in a removal centre and the relationships she forms there. Also world premiering in that strand will be Shatara Michelle Ford’s female centred road movie Dreams in Nightmares and Isaac Julien’s Once Again...(Statues Never Die) which will world premiere along with his 1989 film Looking for Langston. 

Elsewhere, in the Berlinale Special strand, director Bong Joon-Ho follows up his Oscar© winning Parasite with sci-fi fantasy Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson and Toni Collette. Dylan Southern’s The Thing With Feathers, an adaptation of the novel by Max Porter starring Benedict Cumberbatch, which is backed by the BFI with National Lottery funding and World premiered at Sundance, will have its European premiere.  

Peter Wollen’s 1987 film Friendship’s Death will also have a special screening in the strand to honour its star, Tilda Swinton who will be awarded the Honorary Golden Bear for her lifetime achievement. 

Following its World premiere at Sundance, documentary Khartoum, about wor-torn Sundan, from directors Anas Saeed, Rawia Alhag, Ibrahim Snoopy Ahmad, Timeea Mohamed Ahmed and Phil Cox, will play in the Panorama Dokumente strand.
