London-born Alan Rickman directs, co-writes and stars in this wonderful ensemble effort from a deeply talented cast that includes Brits Kate Winslet and Helen McCrory. Rickman himself gives a wonderfully amusing and unguarded performance as the 17th century French King. Synopsis
King Louis XIV (Alan Rickman) leads 17th century France, overseeing his top landscape architect and designer at the Palace of Versailles (Matthias Schoenaerts). After he makes the unconventional decision to hire the helping hand of a woman (Kate Winslet), their relationship develops and her traumatic past is slowly uncovered.
