Directed by Kirk Hendry and Scottish filmmaker Nick Boyle, this engaging coming-of-age animation features an outstanding voice cast that includes Cillian Murphy, Scotland-born Aaron MacGregor and the UK’s Sally Hawkins and Raffey Cassidy. Adapted to screen by Liverpool-born Frank Cottrell Boyce, the film is co-produced by BFI, Kensuke’s Kingdom, Bumpybox, Cardiff-based Ffilm Cymru Wales and Lupus Films.

Synopsis

A young boy named Michael (Aaron MacGregor) and his family set off on a round-the-world sailing trip, but after a tumultuous storm erupts, Michael and his dog are swept overboard, eventually washing up on a remote island. After trying to adjust to life alone, the young boy is confronted by a Japanese man (Ken Watanabe) who’s disgruntled with Michael’s presence, but the two are forced to come together as invaders threaten their tranquil island existence.
