British director Stephen Frears’ Oscar- and BAFTA-nominated cult classic captivatingly explores the lives of outsiders in 1980s Britain. A compelling script from UK screenwriter Hanif Kureishi is brought to life by outstanding performances from British actors Daniel Day-Lewis (still a relative newcomer at this time), Gordon Warnecke and Saeed Jaffrey. Co-produced by Channel Four Films and Working Title Films.

Synopsis
In a neglected part of London, after being given a run-down laundrette to manage by his uncle (Saeed Jaffrey), young Pakistani Omar (Gordon Warnecke) is attacked by a group of young racists. Realising that the leader of the gang is his former lover, Johnny (Daniel Day-Lewis), the two reignite their relationship as they attempt to make a success of the laundrette together, but not without significant challenges from various outside forces.
