Amateur palaeontologist Cora Seaborne (Claire Danes) moves to Essex to investigate rumours of a mythical sea dragon. Whilst there, she develops a friendship with Reverend William Ransome (Tom Hiddleston), but when tragedy strikes, locals accuse Cora of awakening the beast.
